My keys were in my hand as I swung the door open exactly four and a half minutes later to find Mack standing there, looking sheepish with baby Raven in tow.

His gaze swung to my hand, and he raised his eyebrows with a disconcerted glare. “Remind me to not ever piss you off,” he muttered as he stepped past me into the foyer.

“Damn skippy. And don’t you forget it.”

“My car was in the garage, you know. You couldn’t have keyed it without breaking in.”

“Maybe I would have. You don’t know. I can be pretty determined when I want to be. Anyway, the threat worked. You’re here, aren’t you?”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don’t have anywhere else to go. I don’t know what to do. I’m an idiot for thinking they wouldn’t find me.” His eyes darkened, and his jawline hardened into a scowl. “Okay, I knew they would find me, but I figured they would get bored with watching me live a normal life, buying things like deodorant and toothpaste, and eventually leave me alone. Little Miss here complicates things. Babies are not boring. Especially not when they show up on your doorstep out of the blue.”

Sighing, I rolled my eyes at him. “You know, it’s not very attractive when a strong, sexy, take-charge kind of man like yourself spirals into meltdown mode. Get yourself together.” I was half teasing, but half not. “So there’s a baby. They found out and they are interested. It’s a complication. It’s not the end of the world.”
